help surgeons talk with their patients prior to surgery about appropriate pain
management options. The brochure includes a guide for patients to help them
decide when to take medications based on the types of activities they can
perform in the days following surgery.
Additionally, to help patients lower their risk of
misuse and diversion of opioids, appropriate use of these medications for severe
pain as well as storage and disposal techniques are discussed. The brochure also
includes an insert that describes nonmedication therapies, commonly prescribed
medications and their side effects, as well as a customizable and fillable form
