The Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct Exploration hybrid course features online
recorded didactic lectures and an in-person hands-on skills lab. This course is
designed for surgeons who want an overview of pre- and intraoperative
decision-making for patients with choledocholithiasis, as well as how to perform
and accurately interpret intraoperative cholangiography (IOC).
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course learners will be able
to:
1. Understand preoperative evaluation of patients with
suspected choledocholithiasis and implement a "surgery first" algorithm
2. Perform and interpret intraoperative cholangiogram to
diagnose choledocholithiasis and choose the optimal treatment approach
3. Perform transcystic laparoscopic common bile duct
exploration (LCBDE) for treatment of choledocholithiasis using a flexible
choledochoscope
4. Perform adjuncts to LCBDE including balloon
sphincteroplasty and lithotripsy
5. Understand how to safely and effectively implement a
hospital-wide LCBDE program
