The Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness (DMEP)
manual has been developed for participants in the DMEP course. The DMEP course
aims to help trauma and emergency health care professionals develop the
necessary skills and understand the language and structural transformation
required for effective disaster response and management of mass casualty events.
The course developers intend for it to stimulate thought and discussion about
how to become better prepared as citizens, professionals, organizations, and
systems.
The course teaches an all-hazards approach to disaster management, focusing on key principles that apply to all types of disasters. This one-day course emphasizes the unique role of surgeons in mass casualty situations, and addresses planning, triage, incident command, injury patterns and pathophysiology, and consideration for special populations. The second edition of the DMEP manual was released in March 2018.
DMEP course participants will receive a copy of the
manual.
