Common Bile
Duct Exploration (CBDE) Surgical Skills Course

The goal of this course is to review the indications for,
and technical steps needed to perform a laparoscopic via cholechotomy or a
transcystic common bile duct exploration. Course participants will learn
techniques in fluorescent image cholangiography, performing an intraoperative
cholangiogram and interpretation, choledochoscopy, and biliary calculus
extraction.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course learners will be able
to:
1. Describe the benefits of a one-stage approach in the
management of choledocholithiasis
2. Interpret common findings seen on intraoperative
cholangiogram
3. Identify essential equipment required to perform a
fluorescent cholangiogram as well as an intraoperative cholangiogram and common
bile duct exploration
4. Describe the steps required to perform common bile duct
exploration (choledochotomy, transcyistic, choledochoscopy)
5. Become familiar with the management of complications
during and after CBDE.
